I was at a loss for what to gift my husband for his 60th birthday. I suggested we just go “have a look” at Treeline. We didn’t plan on buying, but after meeting Luke and seeing what Treeline offered we walked out with a bill of sale for a Ponderosa RTT with an annex. “Happy 60th birthday, Honey!”

We decided to venture down to Baja California on the eastern coast of Mexico for our first camping trip in about 20 years! We found a state park south of Lake Havasu, The bright side of this place was we could paddle across the Colorado River over to California to an awesome little riverside pub. It was also a great place to get a “feel” for the tent. It was perfect! Cool protection from mid day sun if a nap was necessary. And nothing beats being able to look at the stars through the skylight as you nod off.

Armed with an old map of the Baja without any plan at all, we went where the wind blew us: sometimes literally when the tent was put to the test in very high seaside winds! It was the windy nights when I truly appreciated the annex aka our multipurpose room, as we would enjoy dinner, and cards with room for our chairs and table in the annex. The annex also served as the privacy area and the storage room for extra gear.

Mark’s highlight was the white-knuckle butt-clenching cliff-hugging single lane mountain gravel road down to the tiny fishing village of Aqua Verde. I was relieved to have the Treeline and not hauling a tow-behind camper trailer down this road. We watched the fisherman leave at 8pm at night in their wooden boats, and return at 6 am with a full load of line-caught sea bounty.

We camped along the Mangroves in the parking lot at Puerto Adolpho San Mateos. Our Treeline offered us that versatility and convenience to take an early morning baby whale watching tour in Magdalena Bay, in a town where accommodations and nearby camp site selections were slim. At this point of our trip, I had come to enjoy the comfort our our RTT and a cheap motel was out of the question.
