Three weeks in the vastness of Namibia, the second least densely populated place on earth, in search of those most special creatures: the desert elephants. Wide, solid dirt roads stretch straight from horizon to horizon as you cross the surprisingly varied terrain that moves from plateau bushveld to semi-arid scrub; and from the spectacle of mountain ranges that rise straight from the desert floor all the way through to the oldest dunes on the planet – the red sands of Sossusvlei.
This is driving – and camping – under huge skies where the daytime is hot and the temperatures drop with the sun. And when you find the elephants they remind you to breathe, rest, and always walk steadily onward with grace.
